Lisa Meade, park ranger from First Ladies National Historic Site in Canton, explains the many roles that first ladies have played throughout our nation’s history, including activist, political partner, White House hostess, and celebrity.

See how first ladies like Jackie Kennedy, Mary Todd Lincoln, Frances Cleveland, Dolley Madison, Abigail Adams, Eleanor Roosevelt, and more defined (and sometimes strained against) their roles.

Jatsek is the chief dietitian of Heinen’s Fine Foods. She makes helpful suggestions for picking healthy foods and incorporating them into your meals. Her seven pillars go beyond simply encouraging people to eat more vegetables – though, yes, vegetables are important. She also helps you understand what fruits, veggies, proteins and even snacks are best for your body. Then she suggests how to work these foods into your daily routine.

Discovery the history & importance of Black Union soldiers in the Civil War

More than 180,000 Black Americans fought for the Union during the Civil War, and their actions were vital to the Union Victory. In commemoration of Black History Month, Todd Arrington, site manager of James A. Garfield National Historic Site, discusses the history, importance, and experiences of Black Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Our Civil War series continues next month at noon on Wednesday, March 9. The topic will be Jewish Americans and their Civil War experience. The talk is free to attend and open to all. Registration is required, and you can sign up on our website.

Dog sledding enthusiast Eleanor Csizmadia provided an introduction to Iditarod, the Last Great Race on Earth, during a program we hosted earlier this month.
