The Thrills and Chills Teen Book Club features a mixture of fictional graphic novels and young adult novels for ages 14 to 18 in the ninth through twelfth grades. This list of books was chosen by our young patrons who have regularly attended the Headlands’ Graphic Novel Book Club for the last two years!
The graphic novel is an engaging genre which highlights not only the narrative but artistic expression as well. The YA novels may have spooky twists and turns as well as delve into the challenging lives of the teenage fictional characters.
This group will meet on the second to the last Monday of the month at Headlands Branch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.. Registration is required.
This month’s novel is Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty.

Poetry Contest @ Headlands

To celebrate National Poetry Month, writers of all ages can submit original poetry to win the title of ‘Library Poet Laureate 2025’ in their age group and a $20 gift card to Half Price Books.

CONTEST RULES:
- Poems in their entirety must be original work by the person entering the contest.
- A signed waiver for adult and minor participants must be on file with staff upon entry (please see staff to acquire this form)
- Poems can be submitted to Branch-Headlands@mentorpl.org or in person at any branch location (please give to Reference or Children staff) by no later than end of day, April 30th
- Emailed poems must be submitted as .doc, .docx, or .pdf
- Poems submitted in person must be typed – no hand-written poetry will be accepted
- Poetry can be written in any style and on any subject, but anything containing imagery deemed inappropriate, vulgar or offensive by library staff will be rejected from consideration
- Participants can submit up to two (2) original works
- Contact details (name, age, phone/email) must be included with submissions
- By entering this contest, you agree to allow Mentor Public Library to publish your poems both online and in a printed anthology for public consumption.
- You may submit anonymously but forfeit the ability to win any prizes
- Staff entries will be judged as any other group and a winner will be announced but staff will not be eligible for monetary reward

Don’t read your books – Listen to them instead! Not only can you download eBooks at MPL, but now you can also download Audiobooks. Audiobooks can now be loaded onto PCs, Macs®, MP3 players, and many other mobile devices directly from your computer at home.
Mentor Public Library has expanded its online services by adding “eAudiobooks,” available to download from the library’s Web site through a new service powered by OverDrive. The service is free to patrons with a Mentor Public Library card. Users will need to install OverDrive® Media Console™ a free software found on the library’s Web site.
