Winter Reading Challenge Begins!

Cozy up with a good book this winter, keep track of your reading, share what you have read with other readers, and get involved in other winter related activities.
Every book or activity completed will mark off a space on your bingo card. Each space is an entry into MPL’s January and February prize drawings. (Each participant can earn a maximum of 50 drawing entries.)
Visit the reference desk or use the Beanstack app to sign up starting January 2nd. Last day to participate is February 28. No exceptions.

Board Game Saturdays @ Main

Join us every third Saturday for board gaming at the library! You are welcome to bring in your own games to play or use board games from our “Library of Things.” Adults and teens over age 16 are welcome to join the club and show up whenever you’re available as there are always games starting and ending to join in on the fun. Registration isn’t required; just show up and play! You are welcome to bring food and beverages (no snacks on the game tables, please.)

Come watch the 2014 movie The Giver, a story about a young man living in a totalitarian society who learns the true history of his community from a mysterious yet seemingly benevolent figure known as the Giver. In time, the youth finds the burden of the truth too great to bear and plots to escape.
Twelve copies of the graphic novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, will be raffled off at the conclusion of the movie.
This movie is rated PG-13. Parents are strongly cautioned that some material in the movie may not be appropriate for children under 13.

Thrills and Chills Teen Book Club @ Headlands

The Thrills and Chills Teen Book Club features a mixture of fictional graphic novels and young adult novels for ages 14 to 18 in the ninth through twelfth grades. This list of books was chosen by our young patrons who have regularly attended the Headlands’ Graphic Novel Book Club for the last two years!
The graphic novel is an engaging genre which highlights not only the narrative but artistic expression as well. The YA novels may have spooky twists and turns as well as delve into the challenging lives of the teenage fictional characters.
This group will meet on the second to the last Monday of the month at Headlands Branch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.. Registration is required.
This month’s novel is Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.

Don’t read your books – Listen to them instead! Not only can you download eBooks at MPL, but now you can also download Audiobooks. Audiobooks can now be loaded onto PCs, Macs®, MP3 players, and many other mobile devices directly from your computer at home.
Mentor Public Library has expanded its online services by adding “eAudiobooks,” available to download from the library’s Web site through a new service powered by OverDrive. The service is free to patrons with a Mentor Public Library card. Users will need to install OverDrive® Media Console™ a free software found on the library’s Web site.
