Join us for a cooking demonstration featuring plant-based recipes with LaDonna from “Let’s Cook!” mobile cooking school.
For August, LaDonna will be making Porcini Tofu Burgers. If mouthwatering savory is your thing, then this burger is the burger for you. Enjoy the sultry woody taste of porcini mushrooms as they give an umami flavor to this simple ingredient burger. Space is limited.

Another college application season is around the corner, and stress is already beginning to ratchet up for teens and their parents. You’re invited to join us for this must-watch talk by Irena Smith, PhD. You will hear about constructive and healthy ways to approach the college application process, preserve your relationship with your teen, and help them define success on their terms instead of chasing the elusive “golden ticket.”
Irena is a former Stanford Admissions Officer who has spent 18 years advising accomplished, tightly-wound students in Palo Alto and around the world.

Board Game Saturdays @ Main

Join us every third Saturday for board gaming at the library! You are welcome to bring in your own games to play or use board games from our “Library of Things.” Adults and teens over age 16 are welcome to join the club and show up whenever you’re available as there are always games starting and ending to join in on the fun. Registration isn’t required; just show up and play! You are welcome to bring food and beverages (no snacks on the game tables, please.)

Headlands Treasures Hunt

That’s right, it’s a treasures hunt!
Your summer adventure starts in your own neighborhood! The best treasures we have in our area are our parks. Stop by the Headlands Branch to pick up a map of these parks to explore. Visit as many as you can (mark off on your treasures map) and return to the Headlands Branch before August 1st for a prize and a special chance to win a $25 gift card!

Drawn In To Graphic Novel Book Club @ Headlands

This unique book club will feature graphic novels for 12 to 17 year old patrons. Graphic novels are an engaging genre which highlights not only the narrative but artistic expression as well. This group will meet on the last Monday of the month at Headlands Branch from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In addition to reading current graphic novels, attendees will be given a graphic novel journal and encouraged to write and share their own stories with the group.
Our July graphic novel is LumberJanes to the Max Edition Volume 1 by Noelle Stevenson and Grace Ellis.

Nature Journaling

The library meets the wilderness! Join us every month at a different Mentor park to forge a deeper connection with yourself and with the marvels of nature living in our own neighborhood. We’ll explore different journaling techniques across a variety of mediums.
This month’s session will take place at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve (8365 Harbor Drive).
No experience necessary – open to all ages and skill levels. Limited instruction will be given, as this is a way for each individual to find ways to create a habit of observing and connecting to nature. All supplies provided (but feel free to bring your own!).

The Headlands Branch invites you to empower your mind, body, and soul. Discover the transformative energy of sound and vibrational therapy brought to you by Tammy Wene of Sound and Restore. Vibrational sound therapy can promote relaxation, healing, and wellness. It uses therapeutic singing bowls to create a combination of tones and vibrations that can produce a state of tranquility. Sound healing can make you feel more rested and less anxious after one session.
Join us at Headlands Community Center at 9096 Lake Overlook Drive Mentor, OH 44060. Bring a yoga mat, a blanket, and a pillow. If you do not have a yoga mat, bring a second blanket.

Green Screen Wizardry @ The Hub

Don’t read your books – Listen to them instead! Not only can you download eBooks at MPL, but now you can also download Audiobooks. Audiobooks can now be loaded onto PCs, Macs®, MP3 players, and many other mobile devices directly from your computer at home.
Mentor Public Library has expanded its online services by adding “eAudiobooks,” available to download from the library’s Web site through a new service powered by OverDrive. The service is free to patrons with a Mentor Public Library card. Users will need to install OverDrive® Media Console™ a free software found on the library’s Web site.
