Renovated Mentor Headlands branch reopening

Our Headlands Branch is reopening on Monday, Oct. 17! The branch underwent an interior renovation with new paint, flooring and furnishings. It also now has a designated area for story times and literacy programs, along with a flexible floor plan to allow for larger events for children and adults.

The Headlands Branch is hosting an Inktober Celebration at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, that will double as a dedication for the branch’s reopening. All are invited! Artists can share their favorite drawings from our Inktober event. Everyone is also welcome to check out your newly renovated library. No registration required to join the fun.

Murder mystery authors Kylie Logan & Shelley Costa coming to Mentor Library

Authors Shelley Costa and Kylie Logan have written several books and short stories between the two of them, often of a murder-mystery variety.

Costa is the author of the Val Cameron mystery series. Her writing has been nominated for both the Edgar and Agatha Awards. She’s also received a Special Mention for The Pushcart Prize. Meanwhile, Kylie Logan is the national bestselling author of The League of Literary Ladies Mysteries, the Button Box Mysteries, the Chili Cook-Off Mysteries, and more.

During a charming and insightful interview, they discuss the importance of voice, setting, and resilience. They also share their personal experiences with agents, publishers, rewrites, and almoooost getting a TV deal. We also chat about those delicious Cozy Mystery titles. This is a great video for both mystery fans and those who would like to write them!

How to Make an Old Garden Look New

A trio of Lake County Master Gardeners share their experiences with revitalizing an old garden. They offer both general guidelines and unique insights that can guide you when renovating your landscape!

  1. Noelle Akin from Petitti Garden Centers will share helpful tips for everyone looking to easily maintain their indoor plants year round. The talk will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at our Main Branch and is open to all. Due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 1.
  2. Did you know that you can get free veggie, flower, and herb seeds from our Seed Library? Check out our collection  the next time you visit our Main Branch. Borrow up to 15 packets of seeds per season.
  3. You should also check out the special collection from Holden Forests & Gardens’ Corning Library available at our Main Branch. In addition to a gorgeous arboretum in Kirtland, Holden also has a spectacular collection of gardening, horticulture, environmental and botany books at Corning Library within its arboretum. Dozens of Corning Library’s books are now available to borrow at our Main Branch. Thanks to a partnership between libraries, you can use your cards to check out books from this special collection. Our typical lending rules apply.

Agatha Christie, the famous mystery writer of Death on the Nile and Murder on the Orient Express, was once the subject of a mystery herself. After a spat with her husband, she went missing for 11 days in 1926. Nobody knew where she went!
