Meet mystery author Vivien Chien at Mentor Library

We were delighted to host Vivien Chien, author of the Noodle Shop mystery series, earlier this month. After her author talk, she sat down for an interview that was as fun and funny as she.

She explained why she enjoys writing mysteries, what a Noodle Shop Mysteries video game would look like, and tells us her favorite places to eat in AsiaTown in Cleveland.

Chien’s visit kicked off a Month of Mystery at Mentor Public Library. Throughout October, some of the best mystery and true-crime authors will be visiting us, including:

  • Brad Ricca, author of Mrs. Sherlock Holmes, the phenomenal true story of Grace Humiston, the first woman U.S. District Attorney, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.
  • Jane Ann Turzillo, who will take us on a tour of the murderers, tricksters, train robbers, and more in Ohio’s wicked past at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

All of these author visits are open to all, free to attend, and require registration. Additionally, they’re all hosted at our Main Branch.

Magician shares Tales from Beyond

As part of Mentor Mystery Month, professional magician Jim Kleefeld will share dark and spooky tales of murder, mystery, and mayhem during a special program at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at our Main Branch.

Listeners will learn secrets about the Lizzie Borden murders, the sinking of the Titanic, and the mystery of shrunken heads. Jim will also bring his collection of artifacts, gleaned from years of researching the macabre.

Our friends from Lake County History Center will take you on a tour of the mysterious and macabre in our county’s history.

Mystery author Kylie Logan coming to Mentor Public Library

Author Kylie Logan has written more than 30 mystery novels (including a few under her Casey Daniels moniker,) so you know she has some good stories to tell. Come hear them during a special program at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at our Main Branch.

Logan is the author behind the Ethnic Eats, Pepper Martin, and League of Literary Ladies mystery series. She’ll discuss suspicious characters and explain why solving a whodunnit is so satisfying to readers.

Families can crack the case during a fairy tale-themed game of Clue

Families can play a Fairy Tale-themed, super-sized game of Clue at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at our Main Branch. We’re transforming our Village Room into an enormous game board where families can play together (or against each other.)

Families can work together to solve the crime and catch the sinister villain who has poisoned the princess.

The game’s free and open to all—ages eight and older, please. We only ask that people register beforehand. You can sign up online or call us at (440) 255-8811 ext. 247.
