Show employers your skills with Northstar Digital Literacy

By |2022-02-07T15:03:18-05:00February 9, 2022|

More employers are requiring that job seekers have basic computer knowledge. Anyone can learn, test and even prove they have this knowledge with the Northstar Digital Literacy database. Best of all, the database is free to use for anyone with an Ohio public library card.

You can use Northstar to test your skills in three categories:

  1. Essential computer skills, including basic computer, Internet and email usage
  2. Essential software skills, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Google Docs
  3. Using technology in daily life, including information literacy and using the computer for social media or as part of a career search.

Northstar offers online tests where you can demonstrate your competency in all three categories. You can access them for free at this link. You can create a learner account, which requires an email address, or enter a name and go directly to the tests. Either way, Northstar is free to use.

You can also participate in a proctored Northstar quiz at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at our Main Branch. Those who take and pass a quiz will receive a certificate acknowledging their digital literacy. Sign up here. Those who have questions about the Northstar database or taking a proctored quiz can call our Adult Reference Department at (440) 255-8811 ext. 247.

History buffs can discover two of history’s fascinating but forgotten sisters during a special talk that we hosted earlier this month at the Concord Township Community Center.

Margot Frank and Maria Romanov are less well known than their famous sisters – Anne and Anastasia, respectively. However, these women’s lives and accomplishments are extraordinary and deserve retelling. Our librarian Traci Hoffman recounts the stories of these silent sisters and their tragic deaths.
