All Booked Up with Cailey & Meg: Judging Books by their Covers

By |2023-09-13T10:56:36-04:00September 16, 2023|

Cailey and Meg decided it’d be fun to color code their book choices this time! Each of their recommendations heavily features a color on its cover. Their books are:

  1. See You Yesterday by Rachel Lynn Solomon
  2. Dry by Neal & Jarrod Shusterman
  3. Willa of the Wood by Robert Beatty
  4. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Most of the books we discuss can also be borrowed as ebooks using Hoopla or Libby.

C Dale Brittain explores medieval history, modern fantasy & J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Curious Agnosticism’

By |2023-09-06T11:49:11-04:00September 9, 2023|

Author C. Dale Brittain walks in two worlds. She’s both a medieval historian and fantasy author — both of which she has in common with J.R.R. Tolkien. So she’s uniquely qualified to discuss how medieval history influences modern fantasy.

For example, she:

  • shares how the real War of the Roses influenced George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones
  • discusses how real medieval settings influence her Wizard of Yurt series. She also talks about how she’s not afraid to stray from history for the sake of her stories.

Finally, she talks about Tolkien — both his influence on her and the “curious agnosticism” of Lord of the Rings.
