Master Gardener Advice for Dealing with Deer

Lake County Master Gardeners will offer their expertise on how to deal with deer during a free program at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10, at our Lake Branch.

Learn which plants deer eat and which they avoid. The gardeners will also discuss the problems of increasing deer herds and encroachment of development into natural areas. The program is open to all.

  1. Did you know that you can get free veggie, flower, and herb seeds from our Seed Library? Check out our collection  the next time you visit our Main Branch. Borrow up to 15 packets of seeds per season.
  2. You should also check out the special collection from Holden Forests & Gardens’ Corning Library available at our Main Branch. In addition to a gorgeous arboretum in Kirtland, Holden also has a spectacular collection of gardening, horticulture, environmental and botany books at Corning Library within its arboretum. Dozens of Corning Library’s books are now available to borrow at our Main Branch. Thanks to a partnership between libraries, you can use your cards to check out books from this special collection. First Lady of Television Coming to Mentor Library

Discover the fascinating life of television’s first woman — Cleveland’s own Dorothy Fuldheim — during a free program at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10, at our Main Branch.

As a journalist for the Cleveland Press and later WEWS, Fuldheim interviewed Martin Luther King Jr., the Duke of Windsor, and several presidents. Fuldheim will be presented in character by Anne McEvoy from Women in History.

Meet the First Ladies of the Civil War

Discover the lives and opinions of the first ladies before, during and after the US Civil War during a free program at noon on Wednesday, June 12, at our Main Branch.

A guest park ranger from First Ladies National Historic Site in Canton will share the stories and unique eyewitness accounts of First Ladies Harriet Lane, Mary Lincoln, Julia Grant and Lucy Hayes.

Welcome to Camp Half-Blood

Kids who enjoy Rick Riordan’s bestselling Percy Jackson book series or the Disney+ show it inspired will love Camp Half-Blood at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, at our Main Branch.
