We’re launching a Cryptid Club for kids

By |2022-08-16T10:26:51-04:00August 26, 2022|

Kids can have fun learning about cool and creepy creatures with our Cryptid Club, which launches in September!

Cryptids are legendary animals like Bigfoot, El Chupacabra and werewolves that have been claimed to exist but never proven to be real. Children will learn about these shy animals that are rumored to live across the country.

Each month, the kids will learn about a different state’s most famous cryptid and enjoy fun activities about them. The club is open to all kids, from ages eight to 12. The first meeting will be 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at our Main Branch. Due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 3 to RSVP.

Transform your garden into a pollinator paradise

By |2022-08-07T12:28:34-04:00August 10, 2022|

Transform your garden into a pollinator paradise with expertise from the Lake County Master Gardeners! Our gardener explains some of the ways that your gardens and even lawns can support local pollinators, including insects, birds, and even some mammals. Her recommendations include planting more flowers, using more native plants in your garden, avoiding pesticides, and shrinking the size of your lawns.

Two more tips for any gardeners out there:

1. Did you know that you can get free veggie, flower, and herb seeds from our Seed Library? Check out our collection  the next time you visit our Main Branch. Borrow up to 15 packets of seeds per season.

2. By the way, any green thumbs should check out the special collection from Holden Forests & Gardens’ Corning Library available at our Main Branch. In addition to a gorgeous arboretum in Kirtland, Holden also has a spectacular collection of gardening, horticulture, environmental and botany books at Corning Library within its arboretum.

Dozens of Corning Library’s books are now available to borrow at our Main Branch. Thanks to a partnership between libraries, you can use your cards to check out books from this special collection. Our typical lending rules apply.
