It’s almost autumn. That means back to school, marching bands, baking, and spooky stories! And Cailey and Meg have teen reads about all those and more. This week, we’re talking about:
Most of the books we discuss can also be borrowed as ebooks using Hoopla or Libby.
Friends, families and classes can enjoy reading the same book together using one of the COBAA book kits from our Lake Branch.
The Lake Branch has nine different kits, including titles for the youngest readers to teens and adults. And each kit contains 12 copies of the same book. They’re ideal for everything from play groups to book clubs to home school.

Each book is by Ohio authors and illustrators or have been recognized by Ohio-based book award programs. We received the books via the Celebrating Ohio Book Awards & Authors (COBAA) grant from the Library Services and Technology Act.
The kits can be borrowed for a full six weeks and are available now at our Lake Branch.

Our resident historian Dr. John Foster continues his discussion of the origins of the US Constitution! This time, he’s talking about The Federalist Papers.
After the US Constitution was written and signed, it still had to be approved – both by the states and in the hearts and minds of the people. Consequently, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay launched a spirited defense of the new constitution in a series of articles from the fall of 1787 to the spring of 1788. These articles became known as The Federalist Papers. Discover their contents and importance!
Also, learn about one of the most fatal “your mother” jokes in US history. I promise … it’s relevant.
Foster’s series concludes on Oct. 11 when Dr. Todd Arrington from James A. Garfield National Historic Site will join us to discuss the Civil War amendments. The program is free to attend. In addition to being a reference librarian, Foster has a doctorate degree in history. He has taught history at both high school and college levels. Previously, he has led series on the Battles of World War II, the Cold War, the American Revolution, The Vietnam Wars, and US Presidents of the 20th Century at the library.
Kids can have fun learning about cool and creepy creatures with our Cryptid Club, which launches in September!
Cryptids are legendary animals like Bigfoot, El Chupacabra and werewolves that have been claimed to exist but never proven to be real. Children will learn about these shy animals that are rumored to live across the country.
Each month, the kids will learn about a different state’s most famous cryptid and enjoy fun activities about them. The club is open to all kids, from ages eight to 12. The first meeting will be 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at our Main Branch. Due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 3 to RSVP.
