C Dale Brittain explores medieval history, modern fantasy & J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Curious Agnosticism’

By |2023-09-06T11:49:11-04:00September 9, 2023|

Author C. Dale Brittain walks in two worlds. She’s both a medieval historian and fantasy author — both of which she has in common with J.R.R. Tolkien. So she’s uniquely qualified to discuss how medieval history influences modern fantasy.

For example, she:

  • shares how the real War of the Roses influenced George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones
  • discusses how real medieval settings influence her Wizard of Yurt series. She also talks about how she’s not afraid to stray from history for the sake of her stories.

Finally, she talks about Tolkien — both his influence on her and the “curious agnosticism” of Lord of the Rings.
