Library Hosting Houseplant Swap

By |2024-02-13T08:54:23-05:00February 20, 2024|

Feeling green this spring? We’re hosting a houseplant swap where people can pick up an indoor plant, share cuttings of their own, or drop off a plant they no longer need.

The swap will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at our Main Branch. New this year — an expert from the Lake County Master Gardeners will discuss houseplant care. The program is open to all and registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at (440) 255-8811 ext. 1.

Three more tips for any green thumbs out there:

1. Did you know that you can get free veggie, flower, and herb seeds from our Seed Library? The seed library will reopen for the planting season on March 15. Check out our collection  the next time you visit our Main Branch. Borrow up to 15 packets of seeds per season.

2. You should also check out the special collection from Holden Forests & Gardens’ Corning Library available at our Main Branch. In addition to a gorgeous arboretum in Kirtland, Holden also has a spectacular collection of gardening, horticulture, environmental and botany books at Corning Library within its arboretum.

Dozens of Corning Library’s books are now available to borrow at our Main Branch. Thanks to a partnership between libraries, you can use your cards to check out books from this special collection. Our typical lending rules apply.

3. You can visit our YouTube channel for several gardening and horticulture programs from our friends at the Lake County Master Gardeners.

Journalist Discusses Long Friendship with Justice Ginsburg

By |2024-02-15T09:16:38-05:00February 18, 2024|

NPR journalist Nina Totenberg will discuss her new memoir and more than 50 years of friendship with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during an intimate online conversation at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.

Totenberg will talk about Dinners with Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships. Totenberg and Ginsburg became friends four years before NPR hired the former and more than two decades before Ginsburg joined the Supreme Court. They saw each other through joys and successes, but also through illness, loss and widowhood.

Dinners with Ruth also includes friendship stories about Totenberg’s colleagues at NPR, other Supreme Court justices, and her father — the legendary violinist Roman Totenberg.

Sign up to join the conversation here. A recording of the program will be available to watch afterward.
