Foreign languages don’t have to be Greek to you, as long as you have a Mentor Public Library card.

If you want to learn another language but don’t want to spend money on classes, books or software, try the Transparent Language database for free.

Transparent Language offers a simple, intuitive way to learn the basics of more than 100 different languages—pretty much any language you can think of, everything from Albanian to Zulu.

Transparent Language offers dozens of language lessons, which can help you negotiate everyday conversations, as well as vocabulary lists, proficiency tests, and pronunciation and conversation practice for each language.

And language is more than just knowing words and grammar, so Transparent Language includes culture blogs to add variety and depth to your learning experience. There are even interactive games for each language to help you practice.

Transparent Language is also great for people who are learning English. It offers 30 English-as-a-second-language courses, including ones for people who speak Chinese, Czech, Hindi, Polish, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese and more.

Learn about everything from car repair to genealogy with the new databases at Mentor Public Library.

Do you feel that? Your Mentor Public Library just became even more valuable.

We’ve added 11 more databases to our collection. You can now learn about car repair, research your genealogy or study a foreign language. And it’s all free with your library card.

The new databases include:

  1. Chilton Library — Chilton provides detailed information you need to tackle vehicle maintenance and repairs. Doesn’t matter the year, make or model of your vehicle. You can even get labor estimates on specific repairs to make sure that your mechanic isn’t ripping you off.
  2. Fold3 — The first of three genealogy databases that we’re adding. Research your family’s military history going back to the Revolutionary War.
  3. HeritageQuest — Search for your family’s history through censuses, cemeteries, city directories, military and immigration records, and more public records.
  4. African-American Heritage — A genealogy database that specializes in African-American heritage, complete with state-by-state guides and a volunteer-staffed forum.
  5. Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center — The perfect place for the Pinterest-ed. Find gorgeous ideas for experienced crafters or something fun and easy for the entire family.
  6. Home Improvement Reference Center — For the DIYer. Get helpful advice on maintenance, plumbing, electrical, woodworking, remodeling and outdoor projects. With easy-to-follow, step-by-step guides for any venture.
  7. Kids InfoBits — Kids InfoBits is a neat database for children who are researching animals, music, science, technology, art — almost any topic. Each entry offers pictures, suggested books, and magazine and newspaper articles on the topic. A great resource for any child working on a report or research project.
  8. Oxford Research Encyclopedias — Because Wikipedia doesn’t always have the answer. The research encyclopedias offer more than 11,000 articles — from abacus to Zoroaster.
  9. Small Business Reference Center — A spectacular resource for local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Learn aboutmarketing, tax law, limited liabilities, working with contractors and the hundreds of other things you need to know to be your own boss.
  10.
