History of Cleveland Metroparks: The Early Years

By |2022-05-12T13:25:50-04:00May 21, 2022|

Learn how Northeast Ohio got its Emerald Necklace with Judy MacKeigan, the historian and archivist for Cleveland Metroparks. She explains how the Metroparks blossomed in the 1920s, survived the Great Depression and World War II, and met the challenges of the 1950s. She also shares fascinating stories about William Stinchcomb, Fritzi Klopfenstein, and other people who helped the park district become what it is today. This talk will be available online until July 20.

MacKeigan is also the lead author and content editor on The Hundred Year Trail: A Centennial Celebration of Cleveland Metroparks. She’ll return to our Main Branch on June 29 to share the history of The Flats.

Learn how to navigate the night sky with Star Maps & Apps

By |2021-04-18T12:00:24-04:00April 18, 2021|

Discover how to navigate the night sky during this stellar program!

Chris Mentrek from Geauga Park District’s Observatory Park (with some help from our Librarian Amber Weinrich) share star maps and astronomy apps that can help amateur skygazers identify constellations, planets, comets, and even satellites overhead.

By the way, if you’re looking for help searching the skies, we loan both binoculars and telescopes. They can be borrowed for up to two weeks.
