All Booked Up with Cailey & Meg: Updated Classics

Our new web series, All Booked with Cailey & Meg, has returned! This time, Reference Librarians Cailey and Meg chat about some of the updated classics they’ve read recently, including creative spins on “Pride & Prejudice,” “Little Women,” “Taming of the Shrew,” and “Moby-Dick.”

And, yes, one of them has dragons.

The novels they mention are:

All of the books they discuss can be borrowed as ebooks using OverDrive or Libby. All you need is your Mentor Public Library card. Because you can still borrow books, stream movies, and listen to music for free with your library card — even when our buildings are closed.

Changing our magazine circulation policy

You asked and we listened.

Starting Oct. 1, we’re revising our magazine circulation policy. Now, you can borrow a magazine for one week with up to four renewals. (Like most items in our collection, your magazine will renew automatically if no one else has placed a hold on it.)

This policy change will make it easier for more of you to borrow and enjoy our magazine collection.

By the way, you can also browse magazines on your preferred digital device for free with your library card.

You can borrow digital editions of Popular Science, Gourmet, HGTV, Reader’s Digest, O The Oprah Magazine and more with OverDrive.

You can also check out both new and back issues of 56 different magazines with Flipster, including People, Atlantic, Times, Cosmopolitan, Bon Appetit, Highlights, New Yorker, Money, Redbook, Rolling Stone, US Weekly, Vogue and Teen Vogue, Wired, Runner’s World, Women’s Health, Zoobooks, and Vanity Fair.

Both OverDrive and Flipster are free to use with your library card.

Borrowing magazines on OverDrive

You already know that you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks from OverDrive with your library card. (More than ever, now that we’ve joined CLEVNET.)

You may even know that you can use OverDrive to stream videos to your favorite device.

But did you know that you can use OverDrive to read current and back issues of your favorite magazine? It’s true! You can borrow digital editions of Popular Science, Gourmet, HGTV, Reader’s Digest, O The Oprah Magazine and more for free.

You can “check out” as many as issues as you want and read them at their convenience for the next 21 days. You can access them via desktop or the OverDrive or Libby apps. (The apps are free from the Google Play and Apple stores.) All issues automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.

By the way, you can also borrow digital issues of popular magazines with Flipster.

Streaming video on OverDrive?!

But did you know that you can use OverDrive to stream workout videos, documentaries, and even cartoons to your smart devices?

Now anyone with a MPL card can stream videos via OverDrive to their smartphones, tablets and computers.

If you browse OverDrive’s video collection, you’ll find everything National Geographic documentaries to cooking videos to Sesame StreetYou have nearly 5,000 titles to watch.

You can “check out” as many as 20 videos at a time and stream them at their convenience for the next three days. All videos will automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.

By the way, you can also stream thousands of videos on Hoopla and Kanopy.

And we’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: All of these digital services and more are available without additional cost. All you need is your Mentor Public Library card.
