new-year-5798330Depending on what think-piece article you’re reading, anywhere between 88 and 92 percent of New Year’s Resolutions don’t survive the year.

But you can shift the odds in your favor with help from your local library.

We at Mentor Public Library are ready to help you get healthier, save money, learn a new skill, or attain whatever goal you have set for yourself in 2020.

Get Healthier

Want to exercise more, improve your diet, and just generally be healthier?

We have hundreds of exercise DVDs that you can borrow, and even more videos that you can stream: Jillian Michaelsyogapilates, t’ai chi, and more!

We also have dozens of cookbooks filled with healthy recipes waiting for you on our shelves.

Save More & Spend Less

Get money-management and investment advice from the experts, including the Great Courses professors and specialists on Lynda.com. Their courses are free to watch with your Mentor Public Library card. We also have a pair of talks from Financial Coach Steve Leskovec that you can watch at your convenience on our YouTube channel.

Additionally, we offer databases that can save you money on everything from legal forms to genealogy research.

Learn a New Skill or Hobby

You could probably teach yourself how to play chess, draw, or take a better photo. But why not learn from an expert?

Learn how to play chess from a master, how to draw from an internationally acclaimed artist, the fundamentals of photography with the photographers from National Geographic, and how to cook great meals in less time with an expert chef from the Culinary Institute of America.

Or you can learn a new language for free with our Transparent Language database.

And if this is the year that you learn how to play an instrument, you can start by borrowing one of our ukuleles.

Kids can celebrate without staying up late during the Happy “Noon” Year Party that we’re hosting on Dec. 31.

The party starts at 11:30 that Thursday and will be held on Zoom.

Kids can still enjoy music, games, dancing, snacks, and – of course – the ball drop. RSVP is required, so you have to register beforehand. Once you sign up, you can pick up their party supplies beforehand at our Main Branch either in the children’s department or at the drive-thru. (Please call ahead if you want us to have your supplies ready at the drive-thru.)

To RSVP, register online or call us at (440) 255-8811 ext. 3. See you at the party!
