Come to our Summer Reading Finale Party on Thursday, Aug. 1, and see if you won one of our Summer Reading prizes.

Families can celebrate the conclusion of a spectacular summer during our Summer Reading Finale Party.

The party starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, on our Main Branch.

The party will begin at 6 p.m. in the Children’s department where cake will be served. We will also have the winners of our summer reading prizes drawn.

You can then make your way down to the Village room for a special presentation of Space Jam. The movie begins promptly at 6:30. Enjoy fresh popped popcorn, bring a blanket if you’d like, and sit back and relax while you enjoy the film.

We'll have crafts, games, snacks and FUN at our finale.

By the way, this has been one of our biggest summers ever.  Nearly 1,700 kids (the most ever) have joined our Summer Reading program and read more than 12,000 hours thus far.

And more than 600 teens and adults signed up for Summer Reading, as well. Together, they read about 2,500 books.

By the way, don’t forget to enter all of your books or hours read before our Summer Reading program ends on Sunday, July 28. We want to make sure you get credit for all of the reading you’ve been doing this summer.

And it’s not too late to sign up for Summer Reading, if you haven’t already. Even if you only read one book this summer, you still have a chance to win one of our awesome prizes. And the more you read, the better chance you have of winning.

Feeling crafty on a Marvelous Monday

Kids fill their bottles with colorful sand on another Marvelous Monday on our Main Branch lawn.

We had a crafty Marvelous Monday this week. Kids made sand art and colored refrigerator magnets.

Every Monday during Summer Reading, families can join us 1 p.m. on the Main Branch lawn for out-of-this-world games and crafts. You can also come to Freaky Fridays at 11 a.m. each Friday at our Lake Branch. Every week, we have stellar activities for kids. No registration is required to attend Marvelous Mondays or Freaky Fridays.

And that’s just a smattering of the dozens of programs we’re offering this summer. They are free to attend, though some require registration. You can sign up online or call us to register.

Finally, everyone – kids, teens and adults – has a chance to win prizes when they participate in our Summer Reading program. The more people read and the more programs they attend, the better chance they have of winning. Make sure you enter all your books/hours by Sunday, July 28!

Kids had a blast painting Galaxy Tote bags last week at The HUB (our newest branch inside of Mentor High School.)

All they required were some black canvas bags, paint, sponges and, naturally, glitter to make some out-of-this-world totes.

The HUB is hosting more fun programs this month, including:

All programs are free to attend. However, registration is required for both of them. People can sign up online or call us at (440) 255-8811.

There’s never been a better opportunity to use The HUB’s state-of-the-art makerspace. We’ve expanded The HUB’s hours to noon to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.

The HUB’s makerspace has a green-screen studio (complete with camera and editing equipment,) laser engraver, vinyl cutter, T-shirt press, large format printer, spiral binder, button maker, 3D pens, sticker printer, and mini-laminator.

People can use any or all of these machines to make the project of their dreams. They don’t need to be a student at Mentor High School or even a resident of Mentor. All they need is a CLEVNET card in good standing. Click here for more details or to make a reservation.

Kids got to customize their own bookends with paint, stickers and glitter (so much glitter!) during a fun craft this week on our Main Branch lawn.

Then they enjoyed word searched, games and a snack while their book ends dried.
