Get up to five boxes or bags of documents shredded for free during Shred Day at Mentor Public Library.

Have sensitive documents like tax forms or medical records that you want to get rid of?

Bring them to the library.

We’re partnering with Xpress Shredding for our 11th annual Shred Day in which people can have their documents shredded for free. Shred Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in our auxiliary parking lot on the corner of Mentor Avenue and Sharonlee Drive.

The free service is available to Mentor residents and library patrons. People can drop off as many five document-storage boxes or bags of paper.

All documents will be loaded into locked bins on a secure truck, which will be attended at all times by Xpress Shredding staff. Then the truck will take the boxes and bags to Xpress’s secure facility where the documents will be shredded and the shredded paper recycled. Shred Day will be held rain or shine.

Your Library Online this National Library Week

By |2020-04-19T09:00:49-04:00April 19, 2020|

National Library Week begins today and this is not how we wanted to spend it. We wanted to be with you. But even more than that, we want you all to be safe and healthy.

Since you can’t come to the library, we want to bring the library to you online! Every day this week, our staff will be sharing story times, craft ideas, programs and more on our website and social media.

At 10 am every Monday and Wednesday, your family can enjoy online story times with our staff on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. (The story times are also archived there so you can watch them at your convenience.)

Starting this week, you can get new art or craft ideas with our own Josh Sebrasky. At noon every Tuesday on our website and social media, our resident artist will show you different artistic techniques or crafts that you can make at home.

We’re also re-launching our Pop Culture Podcast, No Talking in the Library! (Now with more social distance.) Our reference librarians Meredith Tomeo and John Foster – whose videos have been viewed more than 100,000 times on our YouTube channel – will discuss culture, books, movies, music, and whatever else they’ve been loving and loathing. We’ll share a new episode at 8 am every Thursday on Facebook, YouTube, and our website.

Additionally, our own Barb Hauer has prepared a special presentation celebrating women artists featuring Helen Dryden and Elizabeth Miller for her Book & Brush Book Club, which combines our love of literature and art. Just because we can’t gather doesn’t mean that she can’t share it with you. Her talk will premiere at 3 p.m. this Wednesday on our Facebook, YouTube, and website. (But you can watch it at your convenience.)

For more information on everything the library is still doing (and what you can be doing) while our buildings are closed, visit www.mentorpl.org/news.

Finally, for more Mentor Public Library programs, we encourage you to visit our YouTube channel. For years, we’ve been posting many of our full programs and author interviews there. You can watch:

We miss you and want to see all of your faces soon. But we are still with you, even when our buildings are closed. Keep your eyes on our website and social media for our latest news, updates, and offerings.

We’re all in this together!
