Help us celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday at the library on Tuesday, March 2!

We’re celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday with games, crafts, a scavenger hunt, and story time on Tuesday, March 2.

We – along with schools and libraries from across the country – commemorate the famed author and illustrator’s birthday each year as part of Read Across America Day. However, because of the pandemic, the party will look a little different in 2021.

This year, families can pick up a packet filled with Seuss-themed crafts and activities from the Children’s Department in our Main Branch, starting Feb. 25 and while supplies last.

Additionally, on March 2, kids can scour the Children’s Department for The Cat in the Hat, Grinch, and more during a Seuss-pendous scavenger hunt. They can also try to guess how many fish the library has in their mystery jar. (Hint: it’s more than Two Fish.)

Finally, we’re hosting a Seuss-themed story time on Zoom at 10 a.m. that day. The story time is open to all families, but you have to RSVP to get the Zoom link. You can sign up online or call us at (440) 255-8811 ext. 220.

On March 2, libraries and schools throughout the nation celebrate Read Across America Day to commemorate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

And who are we to miss a party?

In fact, we threw a pair of parties at our Lake and Main Branches, respectively. Families made crafts and played games based on their favorite Seuss characters. For example, they decorated their own Cat hats, made truffula trees, went fishing for red fish and blue fish, and searched the library during the Cat-in-the-Hat scavenger hunt.  Of course, there were also Dr. Seuss books that families read together and birthday cake to share.

Of course, you don’t need a special day to read with your family, because any day you read with your family is special!

We threw a delicious, delectable, definitely-the-best-able birthday party for Dr. Seuss earlier this month.

Children played games and made crafts inspired by Seuss’s books all day. The designed pockets for their wockets and hats for their cats. They fished for red and blue fish. And searched our Children’s Department for all the hidden hats.

We also had a pair of special guests during our story times, State Rep. John Rogers and State Sen. John Eklund. Both Johns did a great job with the tongue twisters in One Fish, Two Fish.

The library also had a birthday cake for the good doctor, and Dr. Seuss books available for the families to read.
