April is National Poetry Month, and we’re celebrating with a program where kids can write their own poems! It will be 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at our Main Branch.
Kids don’t need any experience with poetry to participate and enjoy themselves. This can be the first time the child’s ever written a poem or they can have journals filled with quatrains and free verse.
At our program, each child will get their own journal and pen. Then they’ll learn about different kinds of poetry. Finally, each kid will pick a word randomly from a hat and write a poem based off that word. If they want, they can share their poem with the group. There will also be light refreshments.
Our program is open to all kids from ages eight to 12. Registration is required. Sign up on our website or call us at 440-255-8811 ext. 3.
By the way, anyone can share their poetry this month on the Poet Tree at our Lake Branch. The tree will be blossoming all April. Poets of all ages and all forms of poetry are welcome. No signup required.
