We’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of our Lake Branch with a party that promises to be magical from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26.

All ages can enjoy a balloon artist, face painter, carnival and lawn games, prizes and treats. At 1:30 p.m., Willie Barnett – also known as Ta-Da, the magician –will perform a show with music, comedy, magic and, yes, a real appearing rabbit.

Due to limited space, registration is required for the magic show. Sign up online or by calling the Lake Branch at 440-257-2512. The rest of the party can be enjoyed without registration. It’s free to attend and open to all.

Construction for the present Lake Branch finished in 1998 at 5642 Andrews Road. The city of Mentor-on-the-Lake sold the property to the library for $10. Before then, the Lake Branch had been located in a rented house next to the Mentor-on-the-Lake Firehouse.

The Lake Branch underwent a substantial renovation and expansion in 2020, allowing it to host more and larger programs than ever. The project was funded in large part by a generous donation from former Mentor Public Library Trustee Francis “Bud” Paulson. The branch’s Beryl B. Paulson Annex & Meeting Room is named in his late wife’s honor.
