Meet Ella Fitzgerald — as performed by actress Debra Rose — during a program at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, at our Main Branch.

Discover the life and accomplishments of this jazz genius. She overcame abuse and even a stay in New York’s state reformatory school to become the first lady of song, despite having no formal musical training.

She won 13 Grammy Awards, including the first ever awarded to a Black woman. She also received honorary doctorates from Yale and Harvard Universities, as well as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Medal of Honor Award. And she famously had a voice so powerful that it could shatter glass.

Discover more during this program from Rose, an actress and historical reenactor with Women In History. It’s free to attend. Due to limited space, registration is required. Click here to register for the Ella Fitzgerald program or call us at Mentor Public Library at 440-255-8811 ext. 1.
