We’re hosting a pair of free introductory programs to American Sign Language – one for adults, the other for babies. Both classes are free and will be led by Dani Prater, a native American Sign Language user with more than 25 years of teaching and interpreting experience.
The class for adults is 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24. They’ll learn the principles of ASL and strategies for communicating with people who have major or total hearing loss. Prater will also introduce them to the ASL alphabet, number and greetings.
Then, babies and toddlers (birth to 24 months old) along with their grownups can learn simple hand signs at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Babies can communicate their needs via hand signs before they can speak, and a few easy signs can ease communication between parent and child.
Both programs are free and will be hosted at our Lake Branch (5642 Andrews Road, Mentor-on-the-Lake.) Due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up online for the adult class or baby class or call us at 440-257-2512.
